IRONMAN Vineman Triatholon this Saturday

 

The acquisition of the iconic Vineman Triatholon from IRONMAN marks many exciting changes for the race, its athletes and our community. The first of these is more participants, which gives the Town of Windsor and Sonoma County a fantastic opportunity to welcome, and introduce, guests from around the country and the world to this beautiful place we call home.
Because the race has been taking place in Windsor for many years, residents have become accustomed to the traffic considerations that occur throughout the race day. This year, the race route has changed, and while residents have been notified by mail, there is turn-by-turn instructions located on the IRONMAN website. Please look for the "Race Info" then click on "Course" and select "Turn-by-Turn Directions" near the bottom of the page.
The run route will include Keiser Park this year, which means the park will be closed to the public for the entire day on Saturday, July 30.

           The CPUC is holding two Public Participation Hearings in Santa Rosa on PG&E’s 2017 General Rate Case request to increase its rates, effective January 1, 2017. These free public meetings will be on Monday, July 25, 2016, 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., at City of Santa Rosa/Recreation and Parks Dept. Steel Lane Community Center, Dohn Room, 415 Steel Lane, in Santa Rosa.

 

If PG&E’s rate request is approved by the CPUC, PG&E would increase revenue $333 million in 2017, followed by an additional increase of $469 million in 2018 and, an additional increase of $368 million in 2019.

Solid Waste Public Meetings - you are invited

The Town’s current contract with Windsor Refuse and Recycling for Town-wide franchised waste hauling services expires on September 30, 2017. In addition, the Town’s franchise agreements with debris box haulers Industrial Carting, Pacific Sanitation and Windsor Refuse & Recycling expire December 31, 2017. The voters of the Town of Windsor in 1996 adopted a ballot measure requiring waste management contracts to undergo the public bidding process, with a 10-year maximum contract term. The Town’s current franchise agreements have met this maximum term.

In preparation for the bidding process for these franchised services, the Town of Windsor will be hosting two public meetings to discuss and receive community input on the Town’s waste management services, Assembly Bill 939 and other State recycling mandates, and residential and commercial solid waste program components and desirable service changes or enhancement.

The meetings will be held on the following dates and locations:

• Tuesday, July 19 at 6:00-8:00 p.m., Community Center, 901 Adele Avenue; and
• Wednesday, July 27 at 6:00-8:00 p.m., Town Council Chambers, 9291 Old Redwood Highway, Building 400.

 

Both meetings will cover the same information, and the Town welcomes public participation in these meetings.

Town Appoints Community Development Director

Windsor, California (June 22, 2016) – Windsor Town Manager Linda Kelly has announced the appointment of Kenneth MacNab to the position of Community Development Director, effective Monday, July 11, 2016. Ken is currently the Planning Manager for the City of Napa, a position he has held since 2012, where he manages the divisions of Planning and Code Enforcement and a staff of 10.
 

In Napa, Ken led an advisory committee formed to update the City’s Housing Element, managed review of several high profile development projects including a new 181-room hotel in downtown Napa, managed updates to the City’s vacation rental ordinance, second unit ordinance and historic preservation ordinance, and coordinated efforts with local, state and federal officials to preserve the historic downtown post office building that was slated for demolition by the USPS due to damage caused by the 2014 South Napa Earthquake. Current issues facing Napa that are shared by Windsor include affordable housing, vacation rentals, addressing economic growth and expansion in the downtown, and reviewing the future of civic center uses.

 

Ken previously held planning positions in the cities of Calistoga and Santa Rosa, as well as the County of Napa. While with the City of Santa Rosa, he completed preparation of the Specific Plan for the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) station in the downtown, co-led and completed a comprehensive update of the City’s General Plan, and managed preparation of a fiscal impact study for potential annexation of a large unincorporated area.

 
Ken holds a Master of Arts in Public Administration from Portland State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and Planning from Sonoma State. He describes his leadership style as “collaborative, accessible and approachable, positive and strategic.”
 

Commenting on his appointment, Ken notes, “I have been impressed with how the Town has managed growth, developed community assets such as the Town Green, and sustained and grown its economy over the years.  The opportunity to build upon these successes and help advance the Town’s vision and goals for the future is very exciting to me.”

 

Town Manager Linda Kelly stated, “The Town is very excited to bring Ken on board. His extensive planning experience in the North Bay will be extremely valuable as we continue to move through our General Plan update effort as well as the many significant development projects underway and on the horizon, including Vintage Oaks, Windsor Mill and the Russian River Brewing Company.”

 The Town’s Public Works Director/Town Engineer Toni Bertolero has been serving as Interim Community Development Director since January 2016. “Toni has applied her knowledge of the Town and development processes to a number of significant projects and has most ably managed the department during an extremely busy time. The Town has been tremendously fortunate to be able to call upon her expertise and strong leadership skills,” expressed Kelly.

Sonoma County Hot Air Balloon Classic this weekend! Saturday, June 18 and Sunday, June 19, 2016

The 26th Annual Sonoma County Hot Air Balloon Classic will be held on Saturday, June 18 and Sunday, June 19, 2016, right here in Windsor! You are invited to the inflation and launching of a field full of standard and character shaped balloons. Tethered rides are also available if you would like a taste of what a view from a balloon is like. Proceeds support local non-profits.

The event will take place at Keiser Park located at 700 Windsor River Rd., Windsor, CA 95492. The gates open at 4:00 a.m., dawn patrol is at 5:00 a.m., and the main launch is at 6:30 a.m.
